Q. Why do people use Isabel's House?
A. People use Isabel's House when they find themselves in a crisis situation. These include loss of a home, drug or alcohol rehabilitation, loss of utilities, emergency hospital stays and more. Children who are currently in the foster care system are not eligible to stay at Isabel's House.
Q. Who will take care of my children?
A. Your children will be cared for at all times by a group of dedicated, trained and caring staff members. If children are sick, medical care is available. Every Isabel's House employee and volunteer has passed a State of Missouri Criminal Background Check and drug test.
Q. What will my children do at Isabel's House?
A. Our goal is to provide as little interruption in your children's life as possible. Isabel's House was created to look and feel like a home, encouraging a nurturing and comfortable place for your children. Your children will attend school, play, work on a computer, create art projects and more. They will be fed nutritious meals and enjoy a good night's sleep under the care of Isabel's House staff. We want you to know that we're here to take wonderful care of your child, and give you support and assistance.
Q. Who runs Isabel's House?
A. Our facility is privately owned and operated through federal and state grants and private donations.
Q. Do I have access to my children while they're at Isabel's House?
A. Yes, parents are able to visit or call and talk to children during their stay.
Q. How successful is Isabel's House in addressing someone's emergency situation or short-term crisis?
A. Last year, over 80% of the families that used Isabel's House for homelessness or an unsafe home, resolved their short-term crisis. Over 90% of the families that used Isabel's House for hospitalization or to receive mental health care resolved their emergency situation and almost 80% of the families that used Isabel's House for overwhelming parental stress saw a reduction in stress after receiving crisis care services through Isabel's House.
